New Year’s Concert at Prague Castle
The ČSOB Private Banking New Year’s Concert took place for the twentieth time on Monday 1 January 2018. This concert is traditionally held in the Spanish Hall at Prague Castle.
Conductor Jan Talich, who continues in the famous family musical tradition, guided guests through the entire evening. His father established Talich’s quartet and his great-uncle was the very well-known conductor Václav Talich.
The topic of this year’s celebratory evening was celebration of 100 years since the establishment of an independent Czechoslovak Republic, and was also complemented by the arrangement of the individual pieces of music. Talich’s Chamber Orchestra performed music by important Czech composers, such as Antonín Dvořák, Josef Suk, Bedřich Smetana and Leoš Janáček. Leading Czech soprano singer Alžběta Poláčková was the exclusive guest of the evening and her unique and resonant voice accompanied several pieces of music and captivated everyone in the hall.
In the evening guests were able to view the painting Kalvárie v Locronanu II by Jan Zrzavý from the collections of the KODL Gallery, which was auctioned for a record CZK 17 million in 2017 and Jamie Marshall, a musician from London, played pleasant music during the celebratory buffet.
The New Year’s Concert in the representative space of Prague Castle launched 2018 in a magnificent and unforgettable manner.
